In conjunction with my first run, I had been doing the 30 day squat challenge. Between the both of these, I felt that pain in my leg for the next week. I finally connected that the squat challenge may be adversely affecting me, so I stopped that as well as running. I'm taking this week to try simply walking. I'm only going to do it on the track, and I know I need to take it slow. Since I'm a little worried about Pete's plan, I'm going to try this one next week (assuming I have no pain during or after walking this week). I'm planning to go get fitted for new shoes next week as well.
One of the hardest parts about listening to my body was knowing that this extra delay means I will not be able to run the Esprit de She in just ten days.
I've literally been looking forward to this race before it was even announced. I'm unbelievably disappointed, but I know it's for the best. I know I can not risk re-injury. Not to mention I refuse to be on that scooter ever again! I still plan to go to Esprit de She and be a part of the festivities. I love cheering on other runners, and I know the atmosphere will be worth it. Want to know a little more about the race? Watch the video below!

It sucks being injured... but you are being smart about it. I haven't heard of Espirit de She.. but the name is cool as all hell!
Fingers crossed for a pain free run next week! I am looking at running a 10k (or 5k) on the 4th of July. I am still working on my summer/fall running plans.
Sorry you are still out of commission. :( My next race is in August and it's a fun run, Color Me Rad. But I'm still in training for my first 10k in September, eek!
Being injured sucks big time. I am not sure how much longer I am out but I fractured my fibula right above the ankle 3.5 weeks ago and its making me crazy not being able to walk.
I'm so sorry Kristen! That's just the worst. On a similar note, I'm not going to be able to run Chicago. Damn stress fractures!
I'm so bummed for you girl :( I know how much you were looking forward to this. But you'll come back stronger and better than ever when you're ready!!
As for races, my next planned race is the 2014 Boston Marathon (!!!), but I'm on the hunt for a good half in the fall :)
While I'm no runner, I definitely can relate to the sports injury thing. I was out of commission for a while when I played basketball with an ankle injury and then a foot injury. It's definitely tough being sidelined when you just want to be able to get back into the game. I hope that the healing process continues, even if slowly and that you'll soon be able to get back to running! Keep your spirits up-- you'll get there eventually!
I'm sorry that you don't get to run the 5k, that really stinks... but I AM glad that you're being smart about your recovery and taking it slowly. I hope you heal up soon!
Such a bummer you can't run the race this year; I'm so sorry! Good for you for taking it easy though, and preventing further injury! As for my next race...I think I'll most likely do the Borgess Run for the Health of it that I skipped out on this year next spring. I've been really bad at consistently running lately, and need to get back at it!
It seems like a cool race! It's probably for the best to take it slow though, even though you can't do anything right now, you know it will help in the long run. Hopefully you can go back to running soon! :) xo
Hang in there, girl! I know it's frustrating but these races aren't going anywhere. I do get it though. I think I cried when I went to pick up my Rock and Roll half packet last summer:( But, you'll be back even faster and stronger before you know it!
So sorry you haven't been able to run! I have a new health problem that is preventing me from doing any real working out and it is driving me crazy! I've really come to enjoy working out (never thought I'd see the day) PLUS I have to be a bathing suit next weekend. I know taking it easy is hard, but what can you do? Just rest up and get better. <3
i'm sorry you are still having problems with your inury!! I know that's so difficult! Hope you start feeling better soon :)
xo,
Angela
I found your blog when Googling Esprit de She. I am participating in the 5k in Cary. Did you consider walking it? I started C25K 5 weeks ago and knew I wouldn't be able to run the whole time. Then I had to stop for 2 weeks due to knee pain. So I won't be running much at all. Now I'm nervous that I'll be the only one walking!
