While my "loose" goal for 2012 was to run another big race/keep running, I have been brainstorming a goal of running a certain number of races this year. Last year, I loftily threw around the idea of running a race every month to maintain my motivation. I don't want to do that again. Why? 1) If I miss January, I've already partially failed at the goal and 2) I was sick for a month last year. Sickness can set you back unexpectedly. I'm also not quite ready to battle all types of weather for running. I'm quite content using a treadmill still.
My point being...I'm thinking 8 races should be run this year. Here are a few races I've got on the docket (unofficially that is as I haven't registered for any yet):
FEBRUARY
Run for Roses 5k in Raleigh. It's a Sunday run, starts at 2pm, and benefits Canines for Service, an
organization which trains service dog for people with limited mobility. Sounds like a winner to me!
The NC Torch Run 5k is an early race at 8:30, but proceeds support the NC Special Olympics. How can I not run a race to support that?!
MARCH
There is a St. Patty's Run for the Green 8k on March 3rd and the Equinoxalizer 4 miler in mid-March. I love the different distances here. If I am feeling really crazy (and if KayD is still doing it), I may do the Publix Half Marathon in Atlanta at the end of the month.
Three months is about as far away as I want to look right now. Let's see how this goes!

Sounds like a great idea. I plan on doing a snowshoe race next month and a 5k in March, but that is as far as I've planned so far as well :)
I really wanted to do the Atlanta Half too, but I'm chaperoning a trip for my school and will be on it that weekend. So bummed. I just love Atlanta so much I'm hoping to be able to run a race there soon!
This looks like a great schedule. I haven't really thought beyond this one this weekend and then another that I already registered for in February. Then I'll start adding to the books. But yoga and spin are keeping me so excited right now that my excitement solely on running is being shared with my other new joys.
Awesome! I honestly don't run more than 4 races a year it seems. Races here in NYC tend to be expensive ($30 for an overcrowded 5k), but I know that you'll do well with your eight races, especially during the "racing seasons"!
I have been trying to get into running for years! I wish I was brave enough to do a race!
8 races is a lot, but good luck! I think you will do a fantastic job in ALL of them.
