Life Lately :: That time I was super sad.

While I haven't mentioned it on the blog, I've been in a bit of a running depression for the past two weeks.  It took a turn for the worse this week when I really started getting scared that I won't be able to run (let alone PR) my first half in Raleigh in April.  I tore/strained/stress fractured something in my calf and it's been a slow recovery.  Two weeks of no running or exercise.  Missing out on the gorgeous weather.  Please excuse my absence from the running blogs I keep up with.  It's been difficult to read about the running triumphs of others...difficult to see the runners on my street.  I did go for a bike ride today and my calf faired well.  It felt tight after, but not in one specific area of the calf (which is what had been plaguing me).  Enough about that...I haven't been up to much since I've been busy feeling sorry for myself.

[We had the nicest three day weekend getaway for our 3 year anniversary in Boone, NC. Check back for a post on that tomorrow!]

[The cabin.]

[Excited to try out these new "barefoot" running shoes when I'm back in the game. Got them on super sale ($40!) in Boone.]

[D enjoying his hammock and this gorgeous weather we've been having!]

[This little girl is the cutest. Love when she rolls over on her back.]

[Felt like this was a necessity within the depression this week.  My favorite NC cheese, gluten-free nut crackers, and red wine.]

[Took this little buddy outside with me...Big treat for an inside kitty!]

Hoping to do more swimming (which I hate) and short bike rides (my tires are seemingly going flat quickly) if I can't get back on the road slowly.  It's time to stop eating and drinking and start working again.

I had a running hiatus of about a month before my first half (flu, wedding, etc....) When I set out for my first run back, I couldn't even do 2 miles and this was about a week before the race. I was a mess! But seriously, I believe it was completely mind over matter. Do as much as you can without injuring yourself more and stay positive! You can do it! A PR is always amazing but there is always going to be another race and another opportunity!

I'm sorry lady, I totally know how you feel. The good news is you'll probably be able to bounce back pretty easily since you're already a runner. I know it's hard to wait it out (and I apologize for my running posts! I don't mean to make you sad!), but keep your head up! Keep biking and building strength. Maybe try out some yoga classes to help stretch it out???

I hope you heal quickly and are able to run your race; I'm so sorry! cheese and wine always help a bit. :)

Sorry to hear about your injury. I understand how difficult and depressing it is to be in the middle of training and then come down with an injury that requires "stress."

Take good care of yourself so you can heal! And spend time with the other things that make you happy, like furries and sunshine and wine and cheese :) It will all be okay and you'll be running again when your body is ready!

Spinning and swimming have REALLY helped my running stamina. Even though right now I'm only running 1-2 times per week I can definitely tell a difference when I do. So you never know, this change might help you get better AND get your PR!

Ok, I am glad I am not the only one who gets insanely sad about not being able to run. It kills me to see runners out on the street right now! I hope you are back up and hitting the streets REAL soon!

I hope you can get back to running soon, it stinks that you've been away from it for so long. Such a pretty kitty btw. :)

Being out of the game is really hard. I know how you feel. I fractured a rib back in November and wasn't able to workout for two months. But it's better to take the time to heal than to push yourself before you're ready.
You're tough, though. You'll be good as new soon, I'm sure.

Hope you get back into running soon! I'm just getting back into it and am SO happy- I didn't realise how much I'd missed it! Nothing beats cheese and wine though- food of the gods! x
