Travel Tuesday :: Adventures in camping.

After my little week of depression, I mentioned D and I were headed camping.  North Carolina is full of amazing state parks.  A couple of years ago, D and I tent camped at Falls Lake Recreation Area.  For our first pop-up camper trip, we decided to go to Jordan Lake Recreation Area.  There's quite a few campground around Jordan Lake, but after some exploring we liked Poplar Point best.  D went on Thursday and got us a nice site with electricity and all.

[This bad boy has had three generations of Walkers sleep in it! (Maybe four one day?!)]

Since D went down a day and a half before me, he set up the entire campsite by himself.  This is some hardcore stuff too.  That cabinet above keeps all of your cooking necessities nearby but stored away (close for you, safe from animals).

While I wish there was some green on that plate, sorry.  I'm not sorry.  Camping has always been a time that I can indulge in foods and snacks that I never eat (I'm looking at you Garden Salsa SunChips).  Venison burgers (since venison is flexitarian for me), baked beans, and grilled corn is the perfect way to start a camping trip.

French press coffee and chocolate and peanut butter chip pancakes are an amazing way to start your day (after already sleeping in).  Seriously camping food might be the best...  After breakfast and being incredibly sore/tight from my injury, I wanted to start my day off with some outdoor yoga.  My yoga guru, Ashley, sent me some links, and I had one of the best yoga workouts ever.

This view is what I'm talking about.  I laid out the mat under the trees and the sunlight.  I plugged in my headphones (mainly to drown out the loud college kids across the way) and turned on the Yogini Pandora station.  It was amazing, simply amazing.

Cloud Atlas was a doozy to get through (so long), but in my opinion a day is no better spent than in front of the fire with a book.  We spent the entire day reading and relaxing.

Grilled pizza, chocolate popcorn, hot chocolate, and s'mores.  Perfect end to a little camping getaway.

Not so perfect?  A disabled girl trying to pee in the woods (who's wasting time driving and crutching up to the bath house) with a family next door.  Props to D for rigging a tarp and getting me hooked up.  While alcoholic beverages are prohibited in the parks, do you think it stopped D and I?  So imagine our surprise when the park ranger knocked on our camper door Sunday morning.  Oh shit.  Things got real (which means the last four of our beers had to be poured out).  Oh the memories...

Oooh, all your food looks so yum. And I love that you took your yoga mat and did yoga outside. It does sound like a wonderful way to get away for a while. :)

Wow, you guys really know how to do camping right! The fiance always wants our camping trips to be "adventurous" so we end up hiking 8-10 miles between campsites and eating pb&j's or oatmeal. I want to come camping with you and have pizza, pancakes, and yoga!

Oh no! the beer! haha, that's crazy they don't allow it; bummer. looks like a good time. :)

Ugh, isn't that the worst when you can't drink in a park when you're camping?! Like what's the point of camping and sitting around a bonfire then?! Haha. Looks like you guys had a great time. I LOVE camping; it's seriously one of my fave things to do.

This is such a happy post. It sounds like y'all had a lot of fun. I definitely think camping is the time that you can indulge in all the packable foods that you want. And I think it's so cool that you did yoga in the middle of the campsite like that. I'm sure it was even more relaxing. Sounds like a fabulous time! And too funny that you got called out for drinking!

That all sounds so fun! I have only camped in a trailer and motor home, this pop out seems a little more hardcore, but it still seems fun. :)
