Food for thought.

Or words that is.

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." Martin Luther King Jr.

I was also particularly impacted by Kristen's post found here: http://ks-waiting.blogspot.com/2011/05/hate-sin.html

This is a great quote. It's so true. It was so strange and surreal for me to see the cheering and excitement and claims that the US killed him. I just couldn't wrap my mind around all of it. Thanks for the quote.

such a great quote. i have been feeling a lot of conflict about bin Laden's death. It feels so wrong to celebrate death, even of someone who was evil.

or maybe I should say someone who committed some evil acts? not sure. see! very conflicted.

Kristin, this is exactly how I feel about the whole thing. The man was so evil and caused untold pain to not just the States but to the whole world and I don't think he should have the right to keep on living with thousands of others don't, but I can't celebrate his death either.

One quote that was doing the rounds on Twitter last night was one of Ghandi's: An eye for an eye will leave the whole world blind.

I guess it's a quiet relief. Not a celebration.

though it is true that I have been excited to see Osama's demise, I am moved by those who show so much compassion. In the midst of all the glee, my friend just wrote "an eye for an eye make the whole world blind". It was touching. I still feel that his death is worth celebrating but understand and admire those who take a different resolve.

I wrote the exact same thing on my blog! (that I was moved my Kristen's post)! Some of the comments in response were a little . . . infuriating, though. :|
