Blazers and busy-ness!

How do you spell busy-ness?  Because if you substitute an "i," you get business...hmmm.

Anyway!  Sorry it's been a week since I posted :(  As usual, life is just not slowing down for me.  The nights that I don't have lesson planning, grading, or school-related work, I just want to plop down and catch up on tv.  Now that we've actually moved, we're busy unpacking!  I promise moved in pictures will be coming soon.  This will hopefully be a year of decorating and updating our home decor :)  I may need to get some tips from Britney on restoring furniture!

This weekend, I have grading that I haven't gotten a chance to do.  Yesterday was spent sleeping in (yay!  and much needed), eating breakfast and gchatting with my friend, KD, hitting up a couple thrift stores (I'm on the hunt for some oxfords), heading to the gym (about freaking time), cleaning the old house so we can be officially moved out, and finally heading to Target to pick up some necessities.  I did come back and read all my students free-writing journals.  Now the plans for today are to finish up this post, finish my coffee, completely finish cleaning and getting stuff out of the old house, hit up the gym, come back and meet D, hopefully get in some grading (ahhhh!  I have to!), and then have a stay-in date night with D.  I bought some stuff to make homemade lasagna, side salads, and red wine.  I hope he can wind down after a busy week/weekend of traveling and beer.

A note of excitement before I go!  I've been unlucky on the front of find some oxfords period - let alone in my size - in the thrift stores around here.  I think maybe I need to check out Etsy or something.  I did find a blazer yesterday that I fell in love with.  No lie, it is almost exactly like this:

[Softwashed wool blazer from JCrew, $198!]

Mine (and I promise I'll share pictures soon) doesn't have the flaps over the pockets and the buttons are a weird color.  I am considering replacing the buttons with something darker.  This blazer does not have shoulder pads (unlike my first find) and has a splendid fit!  I can't wait to start wearing it for the chillier months coming up!  I've been dying to shop...so the next best (and cheapest) thing is thrifting.  In the upcoming weeks, D is going to be out of town a lot.  I may start browsing some surrounding thrift stores outside of just the Salvation Armys.

Hope you've had a fabulous fall weekend!

Is it official?

Can I be considered a "thrifter?"  I doubt it.  A few weeks ago before school started, I had another weekend alone (when D was out of town).  I decided to try my hand at thrifting.  I figured I could pick up a couple finds for cheap (since I was still living on D's paycheck).  I checked out one of the Goodwill locations here in Raleigh.  At the Goodwill I picked up this little number...(ps. do not judge the horrible picture taking...I've never been a "fashion blogger" and this is literally the first time taking outfit pictures...which obv I suck at)

Calvin Klein BLAZER!

I've probably mentioned a couple of times that a blazer is on my must-have list this year.  I loved the fact that this one had the contrasting lining in the sleeves.  The only problem...shoulder pads.  I know Kim Kardashian can rock them all day...but they don't work for a little teacher like me.  But...you can't really tell in these (horribly taken) pictures...

1. had to cut out my face because I have not taken a shower or put on makeup and 2. sorry for the flash.

Ok...so you can't actually see shoulder pads because of the awfully taken pictures.  There is actually a second problem.  The blazer with jeans is rockin!  How am I supposed to rock this at school?  I can't wear jeans (grrr...).  Oh but I am obsessed with the Nine West sandals I paired this with...

(actually really embarassed by my nail polish right now...it's almost fall though!  And I haven't worn these out)

Except just walking around the spare room playing dress up in these my feet started hurting.  All you fashion gals...how do you bear heels for long periods of time??  Anyway, I'm considering getting the should pads removed (when I have money).  Until then I'm still stoked to find a freaking blazer from Goodwill!  Oh I also picked up lots of books for my classroom.

Next, I ventured to this Raleigh thrift store called Cause for Paws.  All the proceeds go to the local no-kill cat shelter (yay for keeping kitties alive!).  I picked up more books here.  I tried on a slew of clothes that didn't work.  I came out with this dress...

Merona brand from Target

Ok...another terrible picture.  The dress obv needs to be pulled down so the empire waist matches up with the belt.  The belt is mine.  I paired the silver belt because I paired it with these shoes...

From Target...fell in love with them when D and I walked by.  D sweetly got them for me :)

These shoes are perfect for school with the low heel.  I love the buttons and neck on the dress.  One day I'll build up my supply of belts so I can have something more bold.  The dress is super comfy though.  Perfect for a school day.

I can't wait to do more thrifting :)

Since I've been goooooooone.

Here's snippets of what I've been up to and what's happened (hope the pics show up when I email this...if not I'll repost).

-I got my boring, drab trailer classroom with too many seats and one lonely bulletin board.  Hopefully after pictures are to come.
-I spent an entire night hand cutting and drawing letters for my one lonely bulletin board.
-I finally went thrifting (with D's $) and found an awesome record player for D...
-...but it was inside this TV contraption. Didn't get it but scored a dress, blazer (!), and books for my classroom.
-Spent a couple nights writing these adorable postcards to parents telling them good things about their child.
-My car hit 10,000 miles already! Started at 54 back in April when we bought it.
-Celebrated our 6 month anniversary sans tattoo but with a homemade steak dinner, wedding wine, broke out wedding gift wine glasses, and a beer in our wedding party pints.

Even with no money, I still have a wonderful life :)
