We got our "blueprint" for the coop drawn up with the help of our friend Les (who is also an awesome graphic designer). Building will begin either this weekend or early next week. I've got my chickens ordered. I found an awesome little farm out in Holly Springs, NC. Summer-Byrd is having their buy 2, get 1 free sale on April 15. We had a difficult time figuring out which breed of chicken would be best. Les suggested the Ameraucana. That's what we're going with for the buy 2, get 1 free sale since you have to pick within the same breed.

I'm hoping ours will grow up to be as pretty as these! I'm sure these are a special breed of Ameraucana though.
I figure ours will probably look more like this lady.

Eggs may look like this, but some will probably have more of a blue-ish tint to them.
Depending on what breeds are available when I pick up our Ameraucanas, I may look at getting one more chicken. I've really got my eye on Silkies.

The word is that they lay smaller eggs, but they're just so pretty! Silkies come in a variety of colors, and I'd be happy with any.
Now I just need to figure out how to cart these chickens from the farm to my house...

I had recently though how great it would be to have fresh eggs. How much care do the chickens need? Are they dog like in care needed or cat like in care needed.
I love your picks they are gorgeous - pink eggs?! :)
We had Road Island Reds, which is what the second picture looks like- is that just a kind of Ameraucana? Also, I'm loving the retro-chicken... you should get her for some flare =)
This. Is. Awesome. What an awesome addition to your family!! And they come with great gifts! =) =)
Happy Thursday, love!
Keep Shining,
